Who is responsible

This is the personal website of Matthew Hawke. I am responsible for the processing of personal data on this site under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can contact me at matthew.hawke12@gmail.com.

Hosting

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit a page, GitHub receives technical data that your browser sends automatically, including your IP address, and may keep it in server logs to provide and secure the service. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in running a reliable website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). GitHub participates in the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

Visitor statistics

To see how many people visit and which pages they read, this site uses GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service.

  • GoatCounter does not use cookies and stores nothing on your device.
  • It records the page visited, the referring website, browser and operating system, screen size and the country, which is derived from your IP address.
  • Your IP address is not stored. To tell repeat visits apart, GoatCounter briefly uses a hash of your IP address and browser, which is discarded after a few hours.
  • The statistics cannot be used to identify you, and are not shared with anyone else.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Many ad and tracking blockers block GoatCounter. If yours does, you are not counted.

Fonts

All fonts are served from this website. No data is sent to Google or other font providers.

Contacting me

If you email me, I use your address and message only to reply to you. They are not passed on to anyone else.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability (Art. 15–21 GDPR). To use these rights, email me. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority. For Berlin, this is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
